The Black Arabian - extremely rare, magical, mystical, mythical - a work of art, the stuff of dreams. Many owners have mentioned the effect of reading The Black Stallion as a child had on their desire to own an Arabian horse. Perhaps like Alex, we all want to gallop on the sands of a deserted island on the back of a black Arabian stallion!
Over many years and many trips to Russia, I developed a great appreciation for the Russia, its people and the Russian Arabian horse. Perhaps it was destiny that brought me to this country, as I began a dream to merge my interest in Russian Arabians to my quest to breed black Arabian horses with Russian bloodlines.
I knew this would not be an easy task. Black is the most rare color in the Arabian breed and is especially scarce in Russian bloodlines. To make it even more difficult, I particularly wanted to include the legendary *Muscat in the Peterhof breeding program. *Muscat was the first Russian import to be named a U.S. National Champion stallion, and opened the door to a genetic gold mine that had previously been unavailable to U.S. breeders.
I admired the hard work and dedication of Howie Kale in importing and establishing his legendary breeding program of Russian Arabian horses and wanted to utilize his bloodlines in a Russian outcross program. However, I was still determined to breed black Arabian horses, and black horses of *Muscat breeding were essentially nonexistent. After a long search I found the only black grandson of *Muscat by the Ali Jamaal son, Renaissance, who became the first building block of my breeding program. Alissanse is step one.
The next step was to incorporate the bloodlines of Magnum Psyche, himself half Russian through his sire, Padrons Psyche. Another difficult search, but in the end, I found a horse that I fell in love with at first sight - and who is my best friend, Phantom Psyche - a black son of Magnum Psyche out of the *Bask daughter, MS Balinta.
Now the challenge is to concentrate my efforts on breeding the highest quality Russian and Russian outcross horses that I can, while doing my best to produce them, when possible, in black!
