An Ambition For Greatness
RAE DAWN ARABIANS and BEY AMBITION
by Beth Hunziker
Our society is obsessed with celebrities; musicians, movie stars and socialites. We see them in concerts, films, television commercials, award shows, print ads and the really top stars are featured on the covers of the most popular magazines. All the media coverage creates public recognition, as well as curiosity. Paparazzi and fans hound celebrities in the hope of getting an autograph or photo opportunity. They want to know what these extraordinary people are really like. Are they as handsome as their pictures? Are they nice to be around? What is it about them that make them a star? It may sound strange to some people but breeders, owners and trainers of Arabian horses know that just like people, horses have star quality too. And just as actors have performances that establish them as super stars, horses do as well.
Perhaps the most talked about performance by a halter horse at the 2009 U.S. Nationals was given by Bey Ambition and his handler, Claudinei Machado for owners Shirley and Murray Popplewell of Rae-Dawn Arabians in Saskatoon, Canada and Scottsdale, Arizona. This was not Bey Ambition and Claudinei's first public appearance - far from it. Bey Ambition's classic Arabian type and exceptional conformation have earned him prestigious titles at other highly regarded competitions. He was named the AHBA Champion Two Year Old Colt, Canadian National Reserve Champion Two-Year-Old Colt, and Canadian National Reserve Champion Futurity Colt. Each of these competitions set the stage for the 2009 U.S. National Championship...
