Royal Horse Charity receives donation of 18,000 €!
(Royal Horse Charity e.V, charity for the support of therapeutic riding)
At a truly international event in Aachen, Germany, a major step was taken in the support of therapeutic riding beyond borders. The "Verband der Züchter und Freunde des Arabischen Pferdes, e.V." (VZAP), an association of Arabian breeders and enthusiasts, once again invited the Royal Horse Charity, an Aachen-based institution working on the improvement and unification of standards for therapeutic riding world-wide, to the All Nations Cup in Aachen.
On the home grounds of the famous CHIO, the breeders of the world's best Arabian horses met to present their valuable stallions and their offspring.
Sheikh Hamad Bin Ali Al Thani from Qatar breeds some of the world's most exquisite Arabians at his Al Shaqab stables near the capital Doha. His stallion "Marwan Al Shaqab" has already been crowned World Champion twice, US National Junior Champion three times and has also sired many successful offspring.
The incredibly generous spirit of Sheikh Hamad made him propose the idea to hold a raffle of the Champion's stud services (worth US$ 20,000) to benefit the charitable work of the RHC. Mr Wolfgang Eberhard, President of the VZAP, soon agreed and helped to realize this idea.
An initial offer of € 1,500 culminated in a proud offer of € 18,000 for the stud services of Marwan Al Shaqab on Sunday afternoon.
The successful bidder was Shirley Watts, wife of 'Rolling Stone' Charlie Watts.
Shirley's stud farm Halsdon Arabians is located in the beautiful Devonshire countryside and has been home to one of the world's most beautiful collection of Arabian horses for more than 30 years.
Directly after the announcement of the donation, the stunning Marwan Al Shaqab was crowned All Nations Cup Winner - an undisputably well deserved title for the world's most beautiful Arabian stallion of 2008.
The RHC wishes Shirley Watts a lot of success with the future offspring of Marwan Al Shaqab!
